Big Cedar began as two 1920s millionaires' rustic retreats on Table Rock's shoreline; Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris bought the property in 1987 and has spent the decades since building it — with a conservationist's obsession and a showman's budget — into what national press regularly calls America's premier wilderness resort. The vocabulary is Adirondack-lodge grandeur: massive timber frames, stacked-stone fireplaces, antler chandeliers, and windows built around Ozark views, across a 4,600-acre campus that folds in ridgelines, waterfalls, and a mile of lake frontage.
Lodging spans grand lodges (Valley View, Falls Lodge), lakeside cottages, and the signature private log cabins — fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, screened porches over the water — plus Camp Long Creek's glamping shepherd's huts and tents for a different register. The amenity list reads like a resort collection: Top of the Rock's Jack Nicklaus par-3 course with its infinity-edge Ozark panorama (and the Lost Canyon Cave & Nature Trail toured by electric cart, waterfall to cave bar), Ozarks National's full championship course, the subterranean-styled Cedar Creek Spa, a full marina, Bent Hook fishing guides, horseback stables, shooting sports, a dozen restaurants from fine dining at Osage to the Buzzard Bar's live bluegrass, and — 20 minutes west — Dogwood Canyon, Morris's 10,000-acre stream-and-waterfall nature park.
Branson's theaters are 15-20 minutes north when you want them, but Big Cedar is built to be the trip: families settle into cabins for a week, couples take the spa-and-golf version, and the Christmas season dresses the whole property in lights. Book directly, far ahead for cabins, holidays, and fall color.

How far is Big Cedar from Branson's shows?
About 15-20 minutes south of the strip in Ridgedale — close enough for show evenings, far enough that the resort feels like deep Ozarks.
What is Top of the Rock?
The resort's clifftop golf and sightseeing property — a Jack Nicklaus par-3 course with panoramic lake views, the Lost Canyon Cave & Nature Trail electric-cart tour, museums, and sunset-facing restaurants. Non-golfers visit for the cave tour and views alone.
Cabin or lodge room?
Cabins are the signature — fireplaces, porches, privacy — and book out furthest ahead. Lodge rooms deliver the same grandeur with easier walk-to-amenity logistics; Camp Long Creek covers the glamping itch.
